Los Angeles and California to Ibiza

A longer journey than from the East Coast, but still one connection when planned well.

California is the longest common starting point for an Ibiza trip, but the routing logic is the same as from anywhere in the US: one transatlantic flight to a European hub, then a short hop to the island. Los Angeles and San Francisco both typically have nonstop service to Barcelona and Madrid, with more frequency in summer; several major carriers seasonally operate these routes, so check current schedules for your dates.

When the Spain nonstops do not line up, a one-stop routing through a major European hub works well: London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Zurich all typically offer California nonstops and connect onward to Ibiza, densely in summer. From November through April, connecting through Madrid or Barcelona is the reliable pattern, with the onward flight taking about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes.

What to expect

  • Total journey time noticeably longer than the East Coast's 12 to 15 hours, so plan the trip around a good night's rest
  • Evening departures that arrive in Europe the following afternoon or evening
  • Summer offers the widest choice of hubs; winter favours Spain

Making the long trip work

Two habits make a California to Ibiza trip comfortable rather than punishing. First, consider breaking the journey in Madrid or Barcelona: an overnight in either city turns a long haul into two easy legs, and both are worth the evening in their own right. Second, arrive in Ibiza a full day before viewings begin. The nine-hour time difference from the Pacific is real, and a rested buyer sees property far more clearly than a jetlagged one.

Hoy Hoy Ibiza builds the schedule around this. Your advisor coordinates viewings around your arrival, sequences several days of appointments so one trip covers the entire shortlist, and manages everything that follows remotely, so a single well-planned journey is all the travel the purchase requires.
